Working safely involves many factors. Statistics Canada reported in 2008 that medication error for RN’s was positively associated with usually working overtime, role overload, perceived staffing or resource inadequacy, low co-worker support, and low job security.
Statistics Canada reported for 2003 that among employed adults who experienced at least one activity-limiting injury in 2003, 28% said their most serious injury occurred at work.
Statistics from the Workers’ Compensation Board of B.C. show that between 1997-2001 there were more than 30,000 accepted claims in general construction, almost one-third of which were musculoskeletal, with an average cost of $9000 per claim and an average duration of 50 days.
Did you know the back (38%) and shoulder (14%) are the most commonly affected areas of the body for musculoskeletal injuries?
The activity we get at work has to be intentional. Today 80 per cent of jobs are sedentary or require little activity which researchers believe is linked to the obesity epidemic.
We would recommend this company to others. FORME Ergonomics provided a positive way forward to assist our employee modify her office in an effort to address the discomfort she is experiencing.
Thank you for your very informative ergonomic presentation. Our team is very diverse, with very differing roles (which includes nurses, administration staff, kitchen staff, housekeeping staff). You gave a well-rounded presentation which the group could associate with. I have heard that your advice has been listened to and some have changed or looked at their ergonomic practices.
Thank you Carmel for all your efforts in supporting the work of the BC Collaborative for Disability Prevention. Your contributions to our task group as we developed the Stay At Work/Return to Work process model was invaluable. Your facilitation skills and knowledge about disability management & ergonomics helped move us forward, stay focused and ensured we were able to complete a Disability Prevention Process model that we hope will become a best practice standard for all British Columbia workplaces. We have a lot of work to do in the BC Collaborative and hope that we will be able to count on your continuing support.
